Bright Minds Foundation Laptops for Students Program
Often students might need extra attention to help raise their SAT scores to a level that allows them to be admitted to college. To help provide that extra attention, Bright Minds has just particpated in a new program in collaboration with HCPSS designed to help students improve their SAT scores for a better chance to enter college. On March 1, 2014, we provided laptops to 42 Hammond High School students who signed up to attend an eight week after school SAT preparation program at their school. Students received laptops and flashdrives and an SAT training book and DVD to use with the laptop we gave them. Students and their families came to a workshop to receive training on the technology we gave them, and to also receive Financial Literacy training. The After School SAT Program began in mid March and will end in mid May. At the end of the course, students will take their final SAT.
We are excited to expand our programs in this way! To date we have given out 560 computers to students and families that would otherwise not have any access to technology at home. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with HCPSS to support their 2018 Vision and Mission.
Our next program will be held in collaboration with Homewood Center and will provide laptops, printers and flashdrives to 25 students. They will attend a workshop on in May to receive their equipment, along with technology and financial literacy training. More details will be shared later.
